Poem 13

There is something about artificial lights
Intermittent from ceiling fans,
and the sound the blades make—the murmur
the whisper whoosh—the susurrus
that says summer to me
that says lazy days by a lake
as the heat rises
and is blown about
and the light on our white walls
is bright and dark
